Square = half itself? (Posted on 2006-05-04) Difficulty: 1 of 5
A man had a window a yard square, but it let in too much light. He blocked up half of it. After this he still had a square window a yard high and a yard wide. How did he do it?

He blocked off the corners - this took away half of the area but still left a sqaure (standing on its corner) that was 1 yard high and 1 yard wide:

(I know that looks kind of skewed, but you get the idea...)
