A man had a window a yard square, but it let in too much light. He blocked up half of it. After this he still had a square window a yard high and a yard wide. How did he do it?

Oops, nope, it should be square. A tilted square (like a rhombus or diamonds in cards) solves this, as Tomarken suggested.
