Coin through a hole (Posted on 2006-05-29) Difficulty: 2 of 5
Take a piece of paper and cut out a perfect circle with diameter 1 inch.

What is the diameter of the largest unaltered coin which may be passed through the hole without tearing it?

(Consider the coin to be very thin, and the paper to be very flexible and tear resistant, but not at all stretchy.)

I figured this out as soon as I saw the puzzle, and I'm only 12!!! Well I didn't quite figure it out as soon as I saw it, but it did emideatly figure out that you had to fold it in half and twist it.
Using this simple simple way to enlarge the slit I could fit the largest coin through, the half dollor. Withought folding it you can only fit a quartor with the diameter of just under 1 inch.
I dont know how the other poeple on here didn't get this. I think  its a fun puzzle, but its very easy.
