I am a plateau, holding forty-two sheep.

The sheep are held in six sets of seven. The first, third, fourth, fifth and seventh sheep are black. The remaining two are white.

Someone using me to my full potential can even cause people to cry.

What am I?

This riddle should strike a chord with people with similar interests as me. I write this with plenty of strings attached.

The pedal type (which I believe is sometimes used in orchertras) apparently spans some six and a half octaves and has 46/47 strings. C & F are coloured differently.  One source says C and F are different from each other.

I wondered about semitones at first, but the pedal somehow creates the half tones.

I believe that we have such an instrument here, but which type?
