3D Engineering problem (Posted on 2006-08-02) Difficulty: 3 of 5
1. What 3D objects are represented by a pair of concentric circles in its plan (viewed from above) and a pair of concentric circles for its front elevation (vertical face)?

2. What would a #1 object be if it also has a side elevation that is concentric squares [with corner diagonals]?

It may not be the intended solution, but a sphere with a concentric spherical void does indeed meet the conditions of part 1.

In fact, if viewed from ANY elevation (with hidden lines allowed/included) the result would be two concentric circles.

By the way, the correct technical name for this method of 2D veiwng of 3D objects is called Orthogrphic Projection.  Any 3D object can be 100% described by 3 orthogonal such views.
