As destructive as life,
As healing as death;
An institutioner of strife,
Just as prone to bless.
It is all that is good,
Yet with an evil trend;
As it was the beginning of things,
It can also be the end.

Religion is my guess...

Depending on which religion, in very rare cases can bless and heal, or in extreme cases destroy.   People can have the appearance of being good via religion but it doesn't show in their actions.  Without religion there would be no concept of god, and god supposedly created things.  And fundamentalists could very well be the end of creation.
