The following list incorporates both ideas, but is also in a particular order:

HE, AM, ACID, ACES, AMAZES, OUTRIDE, ACTIVATE

The words in the first list are all made up of the postal cods of US states, e.g. MISDID  = Michigan (MI), South Dakota (SD) and Idaho (ID).

A few of the words in the combined list also include state abbreviations, but I'm totally lost as to the common thread of the second list.
