Three different squares are chosen randomly on a chessboard.

What is the probability that they lie in the same diagonal?

Well I think a diagonal is a line connecting two non-adjacent vertices. Being so, a chessboard has only TWO diagonals: the so called (by chessplayers) the large or main diagonals.

Therefore:

C64,3=41664 (total number of sets of 3 squares in a chessboard)

2*C8,3= 112 (total number of sets of 3 squares in a diagonal)

Requested probability: 112/41664 = 0.269%
