A hardware shop owner is setting up his store before opening and hangs a sign advertising: 1 for 10 cents, 15 for 20 cents and 110 for 30 cents. What is he selling?
We note that number of digits in 1, 15 and 110 are respectively 1, 2 and 3.
Since, in terms of the given problem, the prices of the foregoing items, in order, are 10 cents, 20 cents and 30 cents, it follows that the shop owner MUST be selling house numbers @ 10 cents per digit.
