A very old rich man was in the hospital awaiting death. He called for his two sons to see him before he died. He said to his sons, "I want you each to find a horse and ride it to the next town. The owner of the horse that arrives last will recieve my entire fortune." The sons were both very confused as to how they would get to the next town last.
They both started their ride to the next town, each trying desperately to go slower than the other. Just when they were about to give up, they both had an idea of how to inherit the money.
What was it?
The rule was the OWNER of the HORSE that arrived there last would inherit the money, not the RIDER. The way the riddle is written it should not matter which son was riding on which horse, what mattered was who the OWNER of the slowest HORSE was. The riddle did not say the son to arrive last would win so switching horses did not do any good for them to both receive inheritance, plus the riddle never says that each son owned the horse he was on. Regardless whoever OWNED the horse that came in last would win. The only way for them to both inherit the money would have been for them to tie making them both first and last.
