Friends Tom, Dick and Harry are each either a knight, always telling the truth, or a liar, always lying. One day they went to the donut shop and bought six donuts.
Tom claimed to have gotten only one donut, while Dick claimed Tom had two. Harry said Tom had more than three.
All three agreed that Dick had two donuts.
If each of the three got at least one donut and no donuts were shared or divided, how many donuts did each friend get?
As each three could not agree with the number of donuts Tom acquired, yet all three did agree that Dick had two donuts, we can surmise that all three are liars with a donut hole in their statements.
As Tom claimed to have gotten one donut, we know he must have had two or more. As Dick claimed Tom had two, Tom must have had three or more. Harry said Tom had more than three, so we are left with Tom having had three donuts.
As all three agreed that Dick had two donuts, and Harry having at least one donut of the three remaining donuts, Dick must have had only one donut.
Harry, therefore, must have had two donuts.
