My "solution" thoughts had, at a certain restriction, considered some sort of electro or surface tensions which would, of course, be overcome by increased volume.

My other thought relates to the "part 2" which I feel may have more relevance.  That said, both what I am not expressing and what you ar suggesting may well be factors.
