Standing for higher powers (Posted on 2005-12-31) Difficulty: 2 of 5
Kings and lords and Christians raised them
Since they stand for higher powers
Yet few of them would stand, I'm certain,
If women ruled this world of ours.

Some Thoughts Opinion (spoiler) | Comment 28 of 29 |

Toilet seats is a good answer.
The natural urge to urinate is definitely a powerful urge.  It may not be the most powerful, but  the riddle did not claim it stand for the highest of powers.

The solution offered, princes, may actually be a better answer.  If women were the rulers, then princes, of course, would not, and, as such, may not even exist...and thus, few, if any, would stand.

From the answers given: armies, flags, borders, and the like, I can only determine that some, chauvenistically, might consider that women as rulers, would not be as militant and imperialistic as men. Yet, offered as a fact, this could be debated against, and, thus, these as solutions should be dismissed.

The commentary about phallic symbols as a solution can also be considered invalid.  Phallic symbols could have easily been introduced by women.  Some comments made reference to towers, and, I inferred from their commentary that towers were erected as a phallic symbol along with their symbolic stand as a power.  As such, I can not agree to this as a solution either.
