The riddle I tell people is long;

They seem to listen well.

For if it's not listened to by them,

They'll see the things I tell.

This might be one expert jest,

Yet friendly to viewers it is;

In this zippy type of poem

The word I wish for is ...

In terms of the third and the fourth lines, it is apparent that the
answer to the riddle will involve effrorts by a given solver to
isolate the letters that are not inclusive of the texts constituting  the given riddle.

It would be observed that the letters A, C, K, Q and U are not
inclusive of the texts corresponding to the given riddle.

The only word constituted by the foregoing letters, that is A, C, K, Q and U, which is in conformity with the tenets governing lines 5 to 8 is Quack, and accordingly the required answer to the given riddle is "Quack".
