What is the electrical resistance between (a) and (b)? Note: in the image, every resistor is 1Ω.

If the total resistance is finite and non-zero than adding one more section to the front will not change the total resistance.

x=1+1+1IIx

where II is parallel connection

Solve for x and you get

X=1+sqrt(3)
