Substitute each letter by a different digit from 0 to 9 to satisfy this alphametic multiplication problem, where X represents the multiplication symbol.
M E N
X A R T
----------------
B C O N
B R B E
N B B N
----------------
N A T I O N
Note: While a solution is trivial with the aid of a computer program, can you derive it without one?

re: Solution --- Odd symbol by brianjn)
The "≠" was typed in as text with "View Source' checked, not copy-pasted. Using the "Pi" button may be easier to create the odd symbol, as it results in the same odd symbol. I could have used either the "^=" or "!=" combination for not equal, but others may be unfamiliar with the meaning of the paired symbols. I had hoped the HTML entity codes worked here, but they don't seem to always. I've changed the text in the referenced comment to "not =" to provide more readable symbols.

Initially, when choosing to use the HTML entity code "≠", I did consider using the "<>" (greater than, less than) pair of symbols for not equal; yet, sometimes using these can confuse some browsers as they are part of the HTML tags' opening and closing.
