L.A. to Hawaii (Posted on 2005-06-17) Difficulty: 3 of 5
It is about 2244.5 nautical miles from Los Angeles, CA to Honolulu, HI. A boat starts from being at rest in Los Angeles Harbor and proceeds at 1 knot per hour to Honolulu. How long does it take?

True.

The original problem statement can be interpreted in more than one way leading to more than one answer.

I assumed that the acceleration is unidirectional (directed toward Hawaii) for the entire trip, and that the boat came to rest upon reaching Honolulu.
