How and When (Posted on 2009-07-29) Difficulty: 2 of 5
Solve this alphametic, where each of the capital letters in bold denotes a different decimal digit from 0 to 9. None of the numbers can contain any leading zero.

3√(HOW)+ 3√(AND) = 3√(WHEN)

Daniel, my background never went past high school other than my interests.

I delved into 'computers', been a long, long time fascination.  Taught myself 'Basic' programming on "Commodore" machines and 'spread my wings' variously, still doing that, especially with "Javascript".

I was generally happy with my program (I've noted Charlie's critique which I note is important) but without access to some of the software you have at your fingertips I was really wondering about the true viability of using QuickBASIC.  Charlie uses it often and unfortunately, other than the built-in Help I don't think I've seen a manual fot it; I've had to work from print-outs of MS developed program listings that came with MS DOS 5  &  6.

I'm taking all of this "on board".  Maybe if I remember to come back in one of my "greying moments" I'll address your equation in Q.B.
