Justin my intent for the first challenge was as per your interpretation, values of X, X+1 and X-1.  It took a bit to understand to what Dej Mar was referring as the subject says "second challenge".

Now I do have to agree that, as written: ".. but the others differ from that value by just one .."  is ambiguous, so Dej Mar is correct in his interpretation also.

Now, correct me if I am wrong but you have only so far addressed the ultimate and first challenges.

Re your thoughts on the second challenge however, my intent was just as you said, something like: X,X,X,X,X-1,X-1,X-1 or X,X,X,X,X+1,X+1,X+1.

Note:
If it is not to much of a problem could you please offer your computer list?  When I devised this I firstly used a spreadsheet.  In an attempt to get a result for all 7 triangles of equal sum I wrote a program which would have run too slow to ever give me a result.
