I give you a group of three.

One is sitting down and will never get up.

The second eats as much as is given to him, yet is always hungry.

The third goes away and never returns.

What are they?

Something like an old riddle-
the second thing is fire, because everything that is fed to it never satiates its hunger;
the third item is smoke from the fire, because it rises and dissipates
maybe the first item is a match? or, as david suggested, a stove would be the most logical.
