Let x be any positive integer greater than 1 , which is not divisible by 17.

Prove that either x^8-1, or x^8+1, is divisible by 17.

For any odd prime p  (ie, p =2n+1), it is true that

2^p = 2 mod p  (Fermat's little theorem)
so
2^2n = 1 mod p
so
2^n = +/- 1 mod p
