For 6×6, with 6 having 4 divisors, the formula D+2n gives 4+2(6)=16

6 =  6 : 2
2×3 =  6 : 1
6 = 12 : 1
3×2 =  6 : 1
6 = 18 : 1
6 = 24 : 1
6 = 30 : 1
6*1 =  6 : 2
6*2 = 12 : 1
6*3 = 18 : 1
6*4 = 24 : 1
6*5 = 30 : 1
6*6 = 36 : 2
   TOTAL  16 occurances of the number 6
