Why do mathematicians (or programmers) sometimes confuse Halloween and Christmas?

That reminds me of Abraham Lincoln's self-answered question: If you call a tail a leg, how many legs does a dog have? The answer was 4, as Lincoln claimed that calling a tail a leg doesn't make it a leg. A great rejoinder would be that calling a thumb a finger doesn't make it a finger. But it does.
