Paradox or a Riddle (Posted on 2003-04-18) Difficulty: 4 of 5
Four jolly men sat down to play;

And played all night till break of day;

They played for money and not for fun,

With separate scores for every one.

Yet when they came to square accounts,

They all had made quite fair amounts!

Can you the paradox explain?

If no one lost, how could all gain?

It was an all night pie eating contest! The "jolly" men, the "money" was the prize, the "separate scores" were how many pies each man ate, and they all "made fair amounts" because they all gained weight!
