Consecutive Additions (Posted on 2013-11-12) Difficulty: 3 of 5
1. Different integers A, B, C, D consist of the same digits. A+B=C. B+C=D. What are the smallest numbers which satisfy this?

2. Can it also be solved if we add C+D=E?

3. What if instead we add A+D=E?

solution to part 1. | Comment 4 of 6 |
I looked at integer representations of multiples of 1/7 since I recalled the digits repeated and it was easy to find A=142857, B=285714, C=428571, D=714285.

The method doesn't extend to 2.  I haven't looked at 3.
