With at least one piece of each type on the board, what is the maximum number of chess pieces you can place on a chessboard, such that no piece is under attack?

I am pretty sure that brianjn's solution is not what was intended by the author, but technically I agree with him. A black piece is not "under attack" by another black piece & no black piece can "check" the black King, as two examples. And there are no legal moves where a piece of one color can capture another of the same color.
Nice thinking, brainjn!
