With at least one piece of each type on the board, what is the maximum number of chess pieces you can place on a chessboard, such that no piece is under attack?

I'd say it's safe to assume that we can ignore color and assume that a piece can attack any other piece that comes within its range of possible moves. Otherwise, the problem has an even more trivial solution: just grab four complete sets of black (or white) pieces and fill every square on the board.

I still can't come up with an arrangement that accommodates more than 19 pieces...

EDIT: Actually, I just hit 22. Queen at A7, Rook at B5, King at G6, Knight at G8, Bishop at H8, Pawns at C1/4/8, D1/6/8, E1/4/6/8, F1/4/8, and H1/2/3/4.
