Quiz Quandary II (Posted on 2013-11-29) Difficulty: 3 of 5
Four students Art, Ben, Cal and Don competed in a series of four quiz contests involving English, General knowledge, Logic, and Math. They are now wondering about the outcome.
Art thinks Don won the Logic award.
Ben thinks Cal won the English prize.
Cal thinks Art did not win the Math title.
Don thinks Ben won the General Knowledge trophy.
As it turns out, both surmises about winners of the English and General Knowledge contests were wrong, and both surmises about the winners of the Math and Logic contests were correct.

Who won which contest?

If the four students are A,B,C & D and subjects awards are EP, GKT, LA and MT then based on two surmises of English & GK being wrong and of Maths and Logic being right. And also the person is thinking truthfully i.e. he cannot be a winner and thinks someone else is then.

            A       B      C      D

EP                 X       X      X

GKT               X              X

LA        X       X       X      Y

MT        X               X      X

So the only solution if each person wins only one award is A wins EP, C wins GKT, D wins LA and B wins MT.
