Describe this relatively simple arrangement.

My reply to you in email was:
If I was to consider that question in terms of the crossing of two roads then I have one intersection.  Use that concept in the problem.
In the queue Jer was discussing segments.  In my mind then, two lines crossing result in 4 segments.  I hope that answers your question.
