In a certain card game, one of the hands dealt contains:
- Exactly thirteen cards.
- At least one card in each suit.
- A different number of cards in each suit.
- A total of five hearts and diamonds.
- A total of six hearts and spades.
- Exactly two cards in the "trump" suit.
Which one of the four suits -- hearts, spades, diamonds, or clubs -- is the "trump" suit?
From 4: hearts and diamonds could be 1 and 4 or 2 and 3, in either order.
From 5: The six that are hearts+spades could be 5+1 or 4+2
The number of hearts could therefore be 1, 4 or 2
Table based on number of hearts:
hearts diamonds spades clubs
1 4 5 3
4 1 2 6
2 3 4 4 (bad: duplicate number)
The only valid line with a 2 is the middle row.
The trump suit is spades.
