The above statement is not true, but you could make it true just by inserting a certain digit into this equation in three different places.
Same digit!

No mathematical symbol can be added or changed.

What is this digit?
What is the correct equation?

I tried a few things first before it occurred to me: maybe they are a Pythagorean triple.

They are.  The added digit is 2, added as a power to each number:

63²+16²=65²
