Marriage Muse II (Posted on 2014-05-12) Difficulty: 3 of 5
There are five boys in a family, Bruce, Jorge, Victor, Thad and Peter. More than two of them are married and the following facts are known.
(a) Bruce is married if and only if Peter is not.
(b) Peter and Victor are married only if Jorge is.
(c) Either Victor is married or Thad is not.
(d) Thad is married if and only if Bruce is.
(e) Exactly one of Jorge and Victor is married.

Solution Solution Comment 1 of 1

We know at least three boys are married.

From (a) we know that either Bruce or Peter is married.

From (e) we know that either Jorge or Victor is married.

Thus we know that Thad is married.

From (d) we know that Bruce is married, and thus Peter is not.

From (c) we know that Victor is married, and thus Jorge is not.

So Thad, Bruce and Victor are married.
