At the bridge club (Posted on 2017-08-15) Difficulty: 2 of 5
And so spoke my friend the logician:

"My name is North and just now I am in the middle of the rubber
in our bridge club.
I am sitting North, the other players are called East, South & West while our first names are George, Jim, Joe & Thomas.
Joe is my partner at the table and Mr. West's partner in business.
Thomas is sitting to the left of Mr. South and George's partner is Mr. East."

Who sat where?"

In the North position:  Jim North
In the East position:  George West
In the South position:  Joe South
In the West position:  Thomas East

I assume being one's partner in Bridge means:  sitting opposite.
We know Joe's last name is not West.

There are potentially 4 ways Thomas could be sitting to the left of Mr. South.
There are potentially 4 ways George could be sitting opposite Mr. East.

Working through the possibilities yields only one possibility, shown above.
(I have no idea what being "in the middle of the rubber" means.)
