The English word "? " describing a number X
has the value of X points in SCRABBLE.
Find X.
TWELVE
1+4+1+1+4+1
I figured point values of letters average around 2. I found it on the second try only because I tried ELEVEN (value=9) first. It's pretty clear that an exhaustive search doesn't need to go beyond the teens since TWENTY is only 10 points and so the word describing the second digit would have to have a point value ten times as large. Words like HUNDRED don't even come close.
