The 3 kids are going to split a small square cake. It would be easy enough to cut it fairly into thirds but there is a catch:
It is frosted on the top and four sides and they each want to make sure they get a fair share of cake
and frosting.
Find one or more simple (or complicated, creative, etc) ways to accomplish the task.
I offered to slice it into fourths and take one as a 'slicing fee' but that didn't go over well.
Ady: the cake is frosted on top and four sides. If sliced sideways the person with the top would get much more frosting.
xdog: The problem doesn't mention a cube. I want it treated as a square which is why the height is not given. Your solution is what I had in mind.
The origin of this question: I was thinking about equal area dissections of a square where each piece retains the same amount of the square's perimeter. Playing around with other shapes I have not discovered anything else worth making a puzzle out of.
