1. Sure does. Zero's right to exist is boldly displayed: in math, in physics, art and politics, - shortly- everywhere.

2, There  is variety of puzzles based on the "red herring" principle
emphasizing our tendency to ignore the obvious while searching for 
a tangible answer.

I really liked Pedro's puzzle, especially "Find all integers", somehow implying a list of possible triplets..
