Plato set 5040 as the ideal number of citizens in a city.
What so special about this number?
I think it was because 5040 is divisible by all integers from 1 to 12 (except for 11). So it is a good number for dividing into smaller groups of equal size.
5040 can also be divided by 144.
5040 is also 7!, but I don't think that was part of the reason.
