The answer is d). This is just the law of detachment.

Given the statement: If A then B.  Then from an instance of A we may conclude B.  

If [something has a beginning] then [that something has a cause.]

The universe is a [something that has a beginning.]

Therefor the universe is a [something that had a cause.]
