An inverted cone of radius a and height h is filled with water. A sphere made of a material denser than water is placed in the cone. Find the radius of the sphere, r, that will displace the largest volume of water.
After playing around with formula all evening, I've concluded that the solution for a given cone is the sphere with the largest possible radius such that the sphere just completely fits in the cone and displaces water equal to its entire volume. Posting in this strange way since I am currently on holiday and don't have the resources to create and post a full solution.
