Yes, the side CD is AB away, but the distance AB is variable, so the 'tracings' are a variable distance away, and thus the resulting loci of points is not parallel nor the same triangular shape.
BTW I didn't see a link to the geometry drawing - perhaps it's too big of a hint anyway... Thanks
