Why? a quickie (Posted on 2022-02-06) Difficulty: 1 of 5
Someone asked me to solve it in no time - his alphametic equation using p, q & r
I chose another form, asking you to solve it without any help, no software, no calculators, no pen and paper,
WW+HH+YY=WHY
WHY this choice of letters?
More fun!

Clearly W + H = 10 to support the "Y" in the ones place.  Therefore, when doing the addition for the "ones" place, there will be a "1" carried to the "tens" place.  Therefore W + Y must equal 9.  And since W is in the "hundreds" place, it can only be 1 or 2.  Assume W=1, then Y = 8 and H=9.  This solution works.
