Thirds and Differences (Posted on 2005-07-21) Difficulty: 2 of 5

Arrange the digits 1-9 so that the first 3 form a number that is 1/3 of the number formed by the last three and the three digits in the middle form a number that is the difference between them.

The numbers are as they appear, not summed.

The number formed by first three digits = n(say)
Then, the number formed by the last three digits =3n
And the number formed by the middle three digits=3n-n=2n

Then, the solution is given by:
 n          2n        3n
273      546     819
327      654     981

192      384     576
