Card Identification Illation (Posted on 2022-06-12) Difficulty: 2 of 5
There are precisely 4 face down cards containing all 4 suits and the values: Ace, King, Queen and Jack.
It is known that:
  1. The Ace is to the right of the Spade.
  2. The Diamond is to the left of the Queen.
  3. The Club is to the right of the Queen.
  4. The Heart is to the left of the Jack.
  5. The Spade is to the right of the Jack.
Identify these four cards.

Solution Solution | Comment 1 of 4
Solution:   Kh  Jd  Qs  Ac

Translate each sentence into symbolic format:
  s   A
  d   Q
  Q   c
  h   J
  J   s

Align like terms
  h   J   s   A
    d   Q   c

In the second line, the gap could go 1 of 4 places
  h   J   s   A
      d   Q   c

  h   J   s   A
  d       Q   c

  h   J   s   A
  d   Q       c

  h   J   s   A
  d   Q       c
... however all but the first have a suit conflict for the 1st card
So:
  h   J   s   A
      d   Q   c
Put the K in the gap and you get the solution:
 Kh  Jd  Qs  Ac
