No one can argue with the following equation:

√10 - 3 = √10 - 3

Add three lines to the right-hand side of the equation so that both sides are still equal.

ok, since I don't know how to put absolute value signs on the computer, i will use [] instead. but realize that in real life, abs value is indicate by a straight line.

√10 - 3 = √10 - [-3]

The additions I made were two abs value signs and one negative sign.
