In a particular year there were exactly four Mondays in January as well as exactly four Fridays that month. What day of the week was January 1?

The days of the week of January 1, 2 and 3, each occur five times in that month. Friday to Monday leaves only two days in between, so the three 5-occurrence days must be Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

The 1st was on a Tuesday.
