If 6 - 9 is sulfur and 5 - 4 gives you iron, what two elements are obtained from 9 - 1?

Nitrogen and Neon. Take the spelled out version of the first number minus the second number in Roman Numerals. The resulting letter is the element's symbol.

So SIX - IX = S, FIVE - IV = FE, and NINE - I = N,NE
