Three girls went on a vacation, each wearing a red "Love to travel" T-shirt. They each have brought 9 other clean tops, but are fairly active, and as a result each top becomes dirty after wearing it for a day,
They wanted to wear a clean top each day, so fortunately, their cabin came with a washer and drier, however, they could only wash two girls' clothes at a time, so the first and third girls had to wait until the next day to wash their clothes once each.
Their vacation lasted 3 weeks (including the day they left), so each girl washes her clothes twice while on vacation.

From this information, what day did each girl wash her clothes?
Notes: Each girl washes her current top when she washes her other dirty clothes, so it is clean for following days. Differences between lights/darks or types of tops do not matter in the washing process.

The first important observation is when a girl a top, she must have washed it before wearing it again. So you can use this to narrow down when each girl could have done wash.
It's easy to see that the girls did wash at similarly spaced periods, so when one girl did her first wash has no real impact on when she did her second wash.
Since the first girl already did her first wash before she wears her yellow "Sled Shiver Sally" T-shirt on day 10 (as she already wore her green camisole twice) she must have done her wash before day 16 when she wore it again.
But notice that the second girl wears her white "Mind your Pids and Queues" T-shirt on day 20, so she must have included it in her wash on or after day 15. Since the second girl never did a late load, and thus must have done her second load before or at the same time as the first girl, we can conclude both of them must have done their second wash on day 15.
This means that the third girl did her second wash on day 16. This checks out with the fact that the third girl wears her blue coy toy T-shirt on day 5, day 9, and day 17, so she must have done second wash before day 17.
Note that the third girl wears her floral long-sleeve shirt on day 2, and again on day 8, so she must have done wash before then, but she wears her yellow tank top on day 7 and again at day 11, and day 19, so the third girl must do her first wash on day 7.
Since we know the first wash, the first girl did the late wash (since the third girl did late wash on the second wash), we know she must have done wash on day 8 and the second girl must have done wash on day 7, which also checks out.
So in summary:
The first girl does wash after wearing her orange tank top on day 8, and her red "Love to Travel" T-shirt on day 15.
The second girl does wash after wearing her yellow sunshine shirt on day 7, and her white "Mind your Pids and Queues" T-shirt on day 15.
The third girl does wash after wearing her yellow tank top on day 7, and her gray "Undecision" t-shirt on day 16. |
