Make four equilateral triangles (Posted on 2002-03-28) |
|
An equilatteral triangle is a triangle in which all three sides have the same length. How can one arrange six equal-length match sticks so that the result contains four equilatteral triangles?

The idea here is to not confine yourself to a flat surface.
By building a pyramid out of the matches (3 matches for the base, and 3 more as the edges meeting at the top), you make the 4 triangles needed (One at the base, and three more are the faces of the pyramid). |
