What is the answer to this silly pattern... (it's clever)?

There are 10 numbers in the pattern and 10 words in the "Question" (in addition to 10 letters in the answer)
The way to break the pattern is each number in the sequence is the number is the letter place from the left.
For example: For the hint (The answer is ten letters), you could get:
2 1 2 1 5 = Haste 1 6 1 2 7 = Tries 3 1 2 2 1 = Easel
So, the answer is A STATISTIC
