Fair, Handsome, and Unscarred (Posted on 2022-01-20) Difficulty: 3 of 5
Aaron, Bruce, Colin, and Dean are four men standing in a straight line, not necessarily in that order. The following is known about them:
  1. Precisely one man is fair, handsome, and unscarred.
  2. Two men who are not fair, are each standing next to Aaron.
  3. Bruce is the only man standing next to exactly one handsome man.
  4. Colin is the only man not standing next to exactly one scarred man.
Determine who is fair, handsome, and unscarred.

In UUSS, positions 2, 3, and 4 are next to exactly one scarred man, so that is also a possibility. Then, Colin is in position 1 and Aaron is in position 2. Since both people next to Aaron are unfair, Colin is unfair. Then, the only possible perfect person is Aaron, so Aaron is fair, handsome, and unscarred.

Now, Colin is next to exactly one handsome man, Aaron. However, by 3, Bruce is the only person that is next to exactly one handsome man. That is a contradiction. Therefore, SSUU is the answer and Colin is fair, handsome, and unscarred.
